Adoption
Process
Adoption
Application: Submit an adoption application (listed
below) via email to
OnPointRescue@aol.com
Phone Screening: Within 24 hours of
receiving your application, you will be contacted by a rescue
volunteer for a phone screening. This is a great time to ask any
questions you may have about our organization and the adoption
process.
Home Visit: If you reside in the
St. Louis area, the foster parent(s) of the Pointer you are
interested in will contact you to schedule a day and time for a
home visit. If you reside outside the St. Louis area, we will
find a rescue volunteer in your area to conduct your home visit
(it may take a few days to find a volunteer). You will be
notified by email of the volunteers name that will be contacting
you directly to schedule a day and time for the home visit.
Approval/Denial: Once a home visit
has been completed, the board reviews the findings from both the
phone screening and home visit report. You will receive an email
within 24 hours after the completion of your home visit
indicating whether or not you have been approved for the
adoption of a Pointer. We reserve the right to refuse an
application if the home situation or environment is deemed
incompatible with the needs of a rescued Pointer.
Adoption Contract/Fee: After you
have been approved and an available Pointer has been chosen to
match your lifestyle, you will then be required to sign the
adoption contract and pay the adoption fee. As of January
12, 2007, the adoption fee is $225.00 for an adult dog and
$275.00 for a puppy (up to 6 months of age).
Transfer of Pointer: Once we have
received the adoption contract and the adoption fee has been
paid, we will schedule a day for you to take home your new
Pointer. If you reside outside of the St. Louis area we will
work with you to set up transportation arrangements. Your new
Pointer will come with a leash, collar, a copy of all it's
medical records, microchip registration papers, DVD training
video, and a small bag
of the food he/she is currently eating.
Ongoing Support: Now that you have
your new family member, you will continue to be contacted by
OnPoint Rescue for updates on how the dog is doing (this is for
the life of the dog). Additionally, if you are having problems
and need help we are here to support you in any way that we can.
Adoption
Application
The questions
in the adoption application (listed below) are meant to help us determine if a Pointer is the right
breed for you, and to guide you in thinking about all the ways a
dog will impact your life. Please be sure to educate yourself
prior to choosing to submit the application below for adoption
of a Pointer, the breed is not for everyone. The questions address various aspects
of dog ownership that should be given serious consideration
before you decide to share your life with any dog. Your answers
help us assess your suitability as a home for a Pointer, and to
match a dog to your particular lifestyle. Please be specific as
possible, and answer all questions as completely and truthfully
as you can. Upon receipt of your completed application, a rescue
volunteer will contact you by email or phone within 24-48 hours to
further discuss the adoption process.
To submit an adoption
application you must cut and paste the questions below into an
